East Java

In East Java Province, the implementation of the INOVASI program began with research and mapping studies at the end of 2017 which was carried out in order to find learning innovations in East Java Province, particularly at the primary education level. The study found 165 promising practices in literacy, numeracy, and inclusion. In Phase I (2017-2020), the program was implemented in five districts/cities, namely Sumenep District, Pasuruan District, Probolinggo District, Sidoarjo District, and Batu City. INOVASI also collaborated with other organizations & institutions in implementing various programs. In Phase II (2020-2023), the program focuses on strengthening Islamic education and overseeing the implementation of the dissemination program with five partner districts/cities. Cooperation also continues with the two Islamic organizations that oversee Islamic basic education institutions, as well as with TTIs in East Java.

INOVASI also collaborated with other organizations & institutions in implementing various programs, namely: LP Ma’arif NU, Muhammadiyah, Surabaya State University (UNESA) for literacy in primary schools; Sunan Ampel State Islamic University Surabaya (UINSA) for literacy in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah; Nahdlatul Ulama University Surabaya (UNUSA) for literacy in primay schools and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah; Bina Nusantara University Jakarta (BINUS) for numeracy in primay schools and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah; and with the Kolaborasi Literasi Bermakan (KLB) for strengthening literacy at the community level. In Phase II (2020-2023) the program focuses on strengthening Islamic education and overseeing the implementation of the dissemination program with five partner districts/cities. INOVASI continues to collaborate with two Islamic organizations that oversee Islamic primary education institutions, namely LP Ma’arif NU and Muhammadiyah. INOVASI also collaborates with Universitas Airlangga Surabaya (UNAIR) on the Program of Strengthening Character and Skills of the 21st Century as the Implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile through the Formation of Changes in the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, and also with the University of Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (UMSIDA) on gender responsiveness in primary schools and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah.

INOVASI Phase II program activities in East Java Province focus on: 1. Training and assistance in implementing the Special Curriculum for principals and teachers at the district level during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to reduce the learning gap for primary school students; 2. Literacy, numeracy and multigrade training in order to improve the quality of student learning both at the district/city level funded by district/city independent funds, as well as in SD/MI owned by LP Ma’arif NU and Muhammadiyah; 3. Training to increase the capability of the supervisor working group of the Ministry of Religious Affairs/Education Office in terms of monitoring and evaluation – to ease the implementation of academic and managerial supervision of SD/MI at the district/city level; 4. The formation of regional facilitators (Fasda) in the working areas of LP Ma’arif NU and Muhammadiyah so that they can carry out program dissemination independently in the future; 5. The establishment of cooperation between Muhammadiyah and universities in their working areas in six districts/cities so that in the future they can adapt and disseminate literacy and numeracy programs to other regencies/cities; 6. The development of character strengthening of Pancasila Student Profiles at UNAIR’s Madrasah Ibtidaiyah partners in accordance with the six main characteristics, namely: faith, fear of God Almighty and noble character, global diversity, mutual cooperation, independence, critical reasoning, and creativity; and 7. Gender-responsive movement applied within the scope of UMSIDA’s SD/MI partners
