INOVASI Phase 3 has deepened its support for violence prevention in primary schools through a series of training sessions involving regional facilitators (FASDA) and INOVASI teams across six partner provinces: East Java, West Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, North Kalimantan, and Maluku. The training was launched by the Head of the Character Education Centre, Rusprita Putri Utami, with participants receiving direct instruction from national facilitators. The training took place from 30 October to 2 November 2024 at Hotel Santika Premiere Bintaro. This training aims to foster effective violence response strategies, encourage collaboration among local stakeholders, and establish actionable follow-up plans to ensure that violence prevention systems operate optimally and are contextually appropriate for each school.

The goal of this training is to provide each partner province with a structured violence prevention system ready to be implemented in primary schools. With the support to roll out training outcomes at the local level, INOVASI hopes to create a safe learning environment where children feel secure. Each province’s follow-up plan will also focus on strengthening students’ foundational skills by cultivating a school atmosphere free from violence.

The background to this initiative is based on the understanding that safety and comfort are essential prerequisites for meaningful learning at the primary school level. This support is delivered through INOVASI’s Gender and Child Protection unit, recognising that violence often intersects with gender norms. For example, violence in school settings frequently arises from certain gender expectations, such as the association of masculinity with aggression. This initiative also aligns with the commitment of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology through Regulation No. 46 of 2023 on the Prevention and Management of Violence in Educational Institutions, which defines the roles of School Violence Prevention and Management Teams as well as Task Forces. Through Puspeka, the Ministry provides this training to equip participants with the skills to receive and manage violence reports and design cross-agency mechanisms to support these aims.
