Big Book Created by Teachers from East Nusa Tenggara Province

One of the modules in the Early Grade Literacy Program implemented throughout Phase I of the INOVASI Program is the Big Book. In this module, teachers learn to create a Big Book using simple materials such as cardboard and clippings. At the end of the training, teachers create contextual Big Books, both in groups and individually.

In INOVASI partner schools on Sumba Island, the use of Big Books with content that is close to students’ daily lives has been proven to be able to encourage enthusiasm for learning which ultimately improves their reading skills.

In response, INOVASI partner teachers and the education office in four districts on Sumba Island developed 44 Big Book titles with varying difficulty levels. These Big Books were written by teachers and illustrated by local literacy activists who are also teachers. More than 450 copies of the Big Books have been printed and distributed to partner schools and other schools in each district.

Read all 44 Big Books on the digital shelves below and choose which one to read. Happy reading!
