Imagine that 1 in 3 madrasah students in West Java struggles to read. This most populous province, with nearly 50 million people and an area of 35,378 km², holds enormous demographic potential, yet learning outcomes remain unequal. Data from 2024 shows that over 70% of public elementary school students meet minimum literacy standards, while only 40-70% of madrasah students do.

Starting in July 2024, INOVASI Phase 3 is present as an Australia-Indonesia partnership to help the West Java government ensure that all children – without exception – master basic literacy and numeracy skills and develop good character.

Helping stakeholders find “local solutions to local problems” using the Problem-Driven Iterative Adaptation (PDIA) approach and building teacher learning communities. Prospective teachers are also encouraged to participate in a pre-service curriculum based on local needs to make teaching methods more relevant and effective.
Equipping school principals in Cirebon and Sumedang with skills in academic supervision, inclusive management, and utilizing data for informed decision-making.
Conducting gender gap research and supporting the establishment of a Disability Services Unit so that every student—including those with disabilities—can learn in a welcoming, safe, and equitable environment.

With this integrated approach, INOVASI helps Cirebon and Sumedang Regencies maximize the potential of West Java’s young generation.
