This book summarize the results of a research to examine the forms of using the mother tongue as a basic literacy learning strategy in the early grades. This research was conducted by the Center for Policy Research (Puslitjak)\u2014currently the Center for Education Standards and Policy (PSKP), Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning in class generally uses Indonesian, and in the journey of children mastering Indonesian, steps are needed so that children in the early grades of elementary school have the opportunity to continue learning using the local language. Gradually, implementing mother tongue-based learning strategies will help children to master Indonesian. With this strategy, adaptation to the transition to the use of Indonesian can still be carried out smoothly and at the same time ensure that children master the subject matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
