Capital City of Nusantara (IKN)
In the new capital city (IKN), half of first-grade students are still unable to recognize letters and simple words fluently. The new capital, officially established in 2022, is committed to becoming a “World City for All.” However, observations in eight elementary schools in 2024 revealed that many elementary-level students still struggle with reading, understanding information, and understanding numbers.
Starting in July 2024, INOVASI Phase 3 is an Australia-Indonesia partnership designed to help the Capital City Authority and local governments ensure that all children, without exception, master basic literacy and numeracy skills and develop positive character. Our approach includes:
- Distributing books and reading materials to every reading corner in eight schools, so students have independent access to practice reading every day.
- Encouraging teachers to conduct regular literacy and numeracy tests to map student abilities and adjust learning methods accordingly.
- Through the Teacher Working Group (KKG), develop differentiated learning modules so teachers can design activities appropriate for each student’s ability level.
- Train principals and supervisors, build their ownership, and help teachers improve the teaching and learning process.
- Incorporate topics of equality and climate change into teaching materials, and encourage small, sustainable practices as small steps to foster environmental awareness.
With this integrated step, INOVASI helps IKN strengthen the foundations of literacy, numeracy, and character, bringing IKN’s vision of a “World City for All” closer to being achieved.
