Imagine a single classroom, where a teacher must teach students from different grades and with varying literacy levels. That’s one portrait of education at a remote madrasah in Probolinggo. Although East Java is a province with over 41 million people and hundreds of madrasahs, the gap in quality and facilities between cities and villages remains significant.

INOVASI Phase 3 is an Australia-Indonesia partnership to help the East Java government ensure that all children, without exception, master basic literacy and numeracy skills and develop good character. Working with local governments and partners in Lumajang, Tuban, Sidoarjo, and Probolinggo regencies, including LP Ma’arif NU and Muhammadiyah, we:

In collaboration with teacher training centers and universities, we integrate Deep Learning, Love-Based Curriculum, and diagnostic assessments into our teaching methods to make them more relevant and engaging.
In Probolinggo, we are piloting multigrade classes as a solution to teacher and classroom shortages, particularly in remote areas.
Training school leaders to be proficient in data-driven supervision, inclusive school management, and community engagement.
Helping schools improve facilities, implement anti-bullying policies, and promote gender equality.
Establishing Disability Services Units (DSUs) and training teachers in using the Student Learning Profile (SLP) for individualized support for students with disabilities.

With an integrated approach, INOVASI supports every child in East Java to master basic skills and develop according to their potential.
