Pilot: Language Transition in Early Grades (Suluh Insan Lestari)

Yayasan Suluh Insan Lestari (SIL) is a non-profit organization that specializes in linguistics and works with partners to realize a comprehensive transformation for Indonesian ethnicity in Indonesia in the context of their unique language and culture. The development conducted is done through research, translation, training, and language-based education that supports its use and preservation. The SIL Foundation is affiliated with SIL International, an organization that has expertise and experience working in language development in different parts of the world.

Program focus: Mother tongue – language

SIL’s proposed program aims to increase access and ability in literacy and numeracy for early grade children in 8 schools in communities using Kodi language through development of reading materials and active learning in two languages (mother tongue and Bahasa Indonesia) using Bloom software.  Achievement of this is through the following: 1) Development of orthography and language vitality assessment in Kodi language, 2) development of locally contextual thematic books ( reading and audio books) for early grades, using Bloom software; 3) establishment of Reading Corner in class or Smart Kid Garden (Taman Anak Pintar) in selected communities in 2 clusters.
