Pilot: Early Grade Literacy (Litara + OPOB)

Established in 2013, Litara accomodates writers and illustrators with the same vision — improving the quality of Indonesian children’s books through creative artworks and engaging stories so as to enable the books to represent Indonesia abroad. Litara also aspires to improve Indonesian children’s literacy and nurture the love of reading. Meanwhile, OPOB is a community based organisation in North Kalimantan. It began in 2015 when the idea of “collecting used books” to be donated to remote villages was realised. This social mission activity was initiated by a  student from the Tarakan Borneo University named Sarinah. She started it as a proposed work program while undergoing ‘community service’ (KKN). This movement later was welcomed by the public. One of the visions of this community is to preserve reading culture from an early age.
